Mary Ann Kate Welfare (1883 - 1946)

Mary Ann Kate Welfare was born in about 1883. Her parents were Read (1861 - 1949) and Emily (nee Corney, 1863 - 1922). She was the eldest of five daughters. In 1901 she was living in Ramsey St Mary and working as a farm labourer. She got married to George Butler in 1902 and went to live in Holme.

In 1907 she emigrated to Australia with her husband and two young sons (Bertie and Fred). She was 24. Her sister, Selina and her husband John emigrated with them.

Kate and her family returned to England, probably in 1912 eventually settling in Ramsey Heights.

In 1933 her husband, George, committed suicide. Kate went on to marry Denis Anker.
